5 Super Kawaii Things to Do in Tokyo

Spread the love

They are not lying when they say there is no such thing as “too cute” in Tokyo. I felt like a giddy school girl and never wanted to leave because I am a sucker for anything cute and pink and frilly (I’m a GIRL god dammit!). Here were the top five highlights of the most Kawaii things I personally experienced (though I’m sure there are so many out there; please share your experiences in the comments section!):

1. Takeshita Street in Harajuku.

This is an obvious. Harajuku is a world in which I would like to escape every time a cloud of darkness appears over me. It is a world in which I dream of every time I’m having a bad, or even mediocre day. Harajuku is bright pink shops, school girls in the coolest outfits, a crepe stand on every corner, and the most kawaii fashion I have ever seen in my life. Eat crepes and spend money on weird necklaces (like ones with dead dolls and oreos hanging from them).

2. Marshmallow Lattes at FabCafe.

Your latte is actually a ghost in form of marshmallow. It has eyes. And it’s delicious. That is all.
Fab Cafe Address: Japan, 〒150-0043 Tokyo, 渋谷区Dogenzaka, 1−22−7 道玄坂ピア

3. Cat Cafes (plenty of options all around the city)

Drink coffee. Play with cats. You have to pay for allotted time, but…cats.

4. Dollar Stores (I saw the most in Shibuya, but I imagine they are everywhere)

Want bright colors? Want 900 flavors of kit kats? Want 1000 flavors of Oreos? Want really cheap eyelashes? Find a dollar store in Tokyo.

5. Purikura

It’s basically SnapChat on printed paper. Do you want English phrases that are not actual phrases to take over your photos? Do you want big eyes (or in my case even bigger)? Want to add eyelashes and hats and lipstick and cat ears and anything else you can imagine to your now-seemingly-boring face? Go to a Purikura (and make school girls wait because you, as two grown adults, are taking your sweet ass time).
